What is the difference between elca and lcmc
Tony Stoutenburg I had a good talk with a Christus member a week or so ago and she would have liked it if I had stayed. That is nice to know. However, the stricter interpretations that were coming from the pastor makes me think I will be happier as a liberal even if I may not go along with everything. Time will tell. Tony: You are far braver than I to tread over to Steadfast Lutherans.
The rub really got me when the author tried to assert that Sunday School teachers are a proxy for ONLY the father, who if he is generous enough, will allow his subservient wife to teach HIS children about God.
A thought that occurs to me: if LCMC is criticized from both sides, then perhaps they are genuinely centrists. This is not, of course, to say that centrism is necessarily good.
Kelly Yes, I agree. The old German good old boys club surely can stretch the truth. Gee whiz. Logic is the product of corrupt human reason. Only the Bible applies. The fact that it is corrupt human reason that leads them to their biblicistic position means nothing.
Those words in quotes tell a tale. PS to Obie. I am waiting to see what his comments are. Personally, I like books that make you think and yours does. There is no discussion. When all sides are certain about the same thing in the same way, no discussion is necessary, no growth happens.
The same can be said for when all sides are of the same mind in a discussion — no discussion is necessary…what can be said? Daniel I quite agree. I finally told him it bugged me because my brother on the farm was very good at quoting scripture to control me. That helped. Thank you to any of my former pastors who were brave enough to tell us that there are some things in the Bible that are symbolic. God bless all of you pastors out there. You have a busy job and a motley assortment of people to address.
It would be hard to get to know many of them at a level that you could speak their personal conditions and beliefs. I find it laughable that this guy really thinks that a Sunday School teacher is a proxy for the father. I really want to ask him who taught him his first prayer? Was it his father, or was it a bedtime prayer his mother taught him when she tucked him in at night? I think this guy is really forgetting how instrumental his mother was in his first experiences with faith.
Jan 3, We teamed up with Faith Counseling. Can they help you today? Jan 3, 2. Seems to me most churches like to focus on issues which require centuries of commentary and arguments.
This creates a dependency on a priestly class, instead of disciplining and growing in our Christian maturity. Jan 3, 3. I mean think about it, we've had over 2, years to get it all just right, right? What happened with the early Church?
They were radically transforming the world, healing the sick, raising the dead all sorts of signs and miracles. What happened? IMO we allowed our arguments to get in the way of our maturity.
Jan 3, 4. Having been LCMS, my impression is that they would oppose the joint statement on justification by faith, and that they would have closed communion to varying degrees.
Some would be closed communion expect for those who hold a Lutheran understanding of the real presence. Others would be closed communion expect for those who are in full agreement with the Lutheran confessions. Jan 4, 5. Informative x 2 List. Jan 4, Jan 4, 6. Jan 4, 7. Jan 16, 8. Apparently more confessional than ELCA. Female pastors are allowed.
Left up to Congregations. Very congregational, very little hierarchy, no bishops. Lutheran Congregations in Mission for Christ - Wikipedia.

In fact it was at a general Christian seminary although he did go back and get a Phd in theology but that was from a Catholic college. Improve this question. Since the ELCA ordains women. I am not aware of the ELCA communing pets. MarshaAnderson It's not a common practice, and was mostly in response to criticism of a specific event. In an Anglican vicar received a bunch of publicity for communing a dog. Many conservative Lutherans used this as an example of what happens when you lose certain doctrines blah blah blah. Active Oldest Votes. This is a quick rundown, keeping in mind that not every individual parish fully subscribes to everything their parent organization does don't judge a book by its cover, but be aware of the connotations each cover generally carries : Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod WELS The Bible is inspired and inerrant, the Confessions are a clear and accurate articulation of biblical truth.
Salvation is by Jesus Christ alone, given to us as a gift by grace through faith in Him. Universalism is rejected. Women cannot vote in congregational meetings nor serve in public ministry no authority over men in any way in the church. All forms of ministry are divine calls. Close Communion only baptized believers who share their distinctly Lutheran confession of faith in all points of doctrine may commune.
Marriage is a sacred institution between one man and one woman. Homosexual behavior is sin. Women are free to vote in congregational matters, and may serve publicly in humanly established offices as long as those offices do not include any of the distinctive functions of the pastoral office. Believe in a pastoral "office" of ministry, pastor has received a divine call from God, and no one is to preach, teach, or administer the sacraments without a regular call.
Only the pastoral office is divinely established, while all other church offices are human institutions. Only men may be called to the pastoral office.
