What is the average lifespan of a mercedes

From the practical point of view longevity of a car can be increased by the way it is maintained. Otherwise, it would be a normal cease as and when the parts fail to perform. As long as there is no rust and the engine is perfect the car can deliver better service. Many may consider that a car reaching , miles has completed half of its life. The car of this bracket would not generate much interest when putting on sale. If you are planning to buy a used car then chose a car that has reached its full depreciation where the price will be much cheaper and mileage would be moderate.

A four-year-old car might be depreciated for its full value and mileage would be within the acceptable level 30, — 40, miles or less. If you are buying cars that are known for their long life, you can use them up to , miles with normal maintenance. In the present recession, it would be a wise decision to buy a used car that has just crossed 30, miles or less. Any car that has crossed , miles is not a good option for buying. No motor work has ever been done on it and it runs as well as ever.

Some rust under car, none showing around the car. Looks new. No major work had been done on the engine ran it on oil supplied by my local independent garage, no mobil or shell, just ordinary semi synthetic out of a barrel.

I think the idea is a minute to allow the oil to start to circulate, the handbook will say start and use mainly for emissions purpose..

They couldn't advocate running a car Oil is better that used to be, but you used to be able to hear a car get quieter after starting and the oil moving round the moving parts. I don't leave a car on for 10 mins to warm up no. Also on a diesel it needs the engine with some labour to generate heat.

L John Senior Member. The cams seem to be the part most affected by wear especially on a diesel as the cylinders get lubed with the fuel.

The first 10 seconds of an engine running are the most harmful, I always wondered why no manufacturer as far as I'm aware has ever had a motor oiling system that runs for 10 seconds before a start when the engine is cold. Oils have become better and claim to stick to surfaces longer to protect components long after lesser oils have drained away. Troon Active Senior Members. RFdesigner Senior Member. It's not the mileage, it's the number of cold starts. I'd agree with letting it get the oil round for 10 seconds..

What I do which makes a small difference is always reverse into spaces, fiddling about with a hot engine. Then when the engine is cold after starting I can just pull out and go. My previous with a 2. I'd also suggest Automatic transmissions save engines as they won't let you "lug" them in over high gears does a lot of damage. It got miles on clock. My dad a Quality Aerospace Engineer, he has always said leaving a car to idle at cold can shorten its life.

The reason for moving off immediately after starting is because oil pumps are not very efficient at tick over. Normal driving will see plenty of oil reach the top of the engine.

We have a fleet of vehicles that at times in winter are left with engines running, even while the engines are up to temp, for the engineers to keep warm while waiting at a job, mostly they start smoking and showing valve stem oil seal trouble well before 80, miles, no matter what make they are. There are plenty of M engines around with , miles up and still going strong.

I have heard it said that these engines could be as good as the old diesels when it comes to prolonged life - but then again it all depends on how it is looked after from day one.
